ENGLISH BIOGRAPHY
CHOP WOOD
Amsterdam based genre-defying singer-songwriter electric-folk-soul. Chop Wood is a solo project by former Coparck frontman Odilo Girod. His guitarless debut solo album is a mix of electronic and acoustic songs written mostly at night due to his sleeplessnes and insomnia. A diverse batch of eclectic atmospheres sparked with angular remoteness, vivid dreamlike sequences and sweet caustic electricity. Songs about sleepless nights, the strangest thoughts and weird and wonderful dreams.
Recorded in Berlin
The 13 songs on the album were recorded in 10 days with producer Maarten Besseling as part of the 'in a cabin with' project, in a temporary makeshift studio in a room at the Kunsthaus Tacheles in Berlin (may 2008). Several musicians travelled to Berlin to participate such as Finn Kruyning (Moss), Jelte Heringa (most unpleasant men) and Insa Rudolph.

LIVE
In 2009 Chop Wood played 50 live shows at the travelling festival ‘DE PARADE’, did a gig in Moscow, supported Jamie Lidell and hit venues like the Paradiso and the Melkweg in Amsterdam.
2010 brought a Canadian Tour, playing for 10 days at the Dutch OEROL festival, performing in China, the recordings for a new album and some more special gigs in strange foreign countries.

CHOP WOOD
Chop Wood is het solo project van Odilo Girod, voorheen frontman van Coparck.
Met Chop Wood overschrijdt hij zowel op muzikaal als op beeldend niveau verschillende grenzen door zijn bijzondere gebruik van samples, elektronische en akoestische sounds, beeld en projecties. Op een inventieve en vernieuwende wijze worden zo pop en folk met elektronische muziek gemixed.
Zijn debuutalbum werd grotendeels 's nachts zijn geschreven. Zijn slaapproblemen en onregelmatige levensstijl brachten hem tot het maken van een album over insomnia, de nacht, niet in slaap kunnen vallen en absurde droomwerelden.
OPGENOMEN IN BERLIJN
Het album werd in 2008 in Berlijn opgenomen en uitgebracht in het kader van het internationale muziekproject In a cabin with. Diverse muzikanten kwamen langs in Berlijn waaronder Finn Kruyning (Moss), Jelte Heringa (Most unpleasant men), Insa Rudolph en Sonja van Hamel (Bauer).
LIVE
Het live optreden wat aan deze plaat gekoppeld werd, is gebaseerd op het album.
Een optreden waarin Odilo Girod zijn slapeloze nachten heeft omgezet in een
zintuiglijk optreden vol vervreemdende atmosferen, projecties, droomsequenties en onverwachte wendingen. Vorig jaar stond Chop Wood met dit live project op de Parade. Dit jaar speelden ze 10 dagen achter elkaar op Oerol in een parkeergarage.
Daarnaast werden er diverse optredens gedaan in het buitenland, waaronder in Canada, Rusland en China.
